As the name "hd_idle" says, I assume that a spindown command is only issued when the disk is idle. Anything else doesn´t make any sense. In the readme of hd_idle one can read " hd-idle is a utility program for spinning-down external disks after a period of idle time". hd-idle utility, modified to use hdparm tool to spin down disks. I have Seagate 2tb external hard disk. It won't stop spinning even after I shut down my computer. I use windows 8 and drive is connected to usb 3.0. please help Thanks.

Posted 29 December 2016 - 01:34 PM. One trick I used to try but it takes a longer power cable to allow removal and connect the power source or connector. Holding the unit, rotate the platter back. The drive just spins and spins and never stops. The disc won't let me eject it. The only way for me to even get it to stop is to do a force restart on my PC.
